Why Mercedes-Benz Wheels Fail the Way They Do
Mercedes-Benz puts more diamond-cut wheels on the road than any other make in South Florida. The factory calls the finish high-sheen — a mirror-bright machined face over a Tremolite Grey, Himalaya Grey, or black pocket — and it comes standard on most AMG Line C-Class, E-Class, GLC, and GLE builds. It looks superb for three years. Then a chip or a curb scuff breaks the clear lacquer, salt air gets under it, and the face blooms white at the spokes. That corrosion is the most common Mercedes wheel problem we see, and paint can't fix it.
The AMG models add scale. A GLE 63, G 63, or AMG GT runs 21- and 22-inch staggered wheels with lips barely an inch from the curb, and the G-Class in particular curbs its rears on every tight parking-garage turn. The S-Class and Maybach are the opposite problem — gloss-black or polished finishes on cars that get valeted everywhere from Mizner Park to Las Olas, coming back with scuffs the owner didn't cause.
