Why BMW Wheels Fail the Way They Do
BMW wheels fail in a specific way, and it starts with the tires. Almost every BMW sold in South Florida since the mid-2000s rides on run-flat tires with sidewalls stiff enough to drive on when flat — and stiff enough to pass a pothole hit straight into the wheel instead of absorbing it. That's why a 3 Series or an X5 that clips a seam on I-95 comes to us with a bent inner lip and a slow leak while the tire looks perfect. Bent BMW rims are the single most common straightening job we do.
The finishes are the other half. BMW's M Sport and M Performance wheels — the 668M, 706M, 740M, and 791M families and their successors — come in Orbit Grey, Ferric Grey, Jet Black, and Bicolor, which is BMW's name for a diamond-cut machined face over a painted pocket. That machined face corrodes under the lacquer once it's chipped, going milky at the spokes, and it can't be fixed with paint. It has to be re-cut on a lathe and resealed. We do that on-site.

BMW Wheel Repair Questions
Can you straighten a BMW wheel that was bent by a pothole on run-flats?+
Usually, yes. We measure the runout, straighten the lip or barrel with controlled heat and hydraulic pressure, reseal the bead, and pressure-test it. If the impact cracked the wheel we'll tell you whether the crack is in a safe location to weld.
Can you repair BMW Bicolor (diamond-cut) wheels?+
Yes — that's the finish we're best known for. The machined face is re-cut on a CNC lathe to the factory pattern and resealed so the corrosion doesn't come back. Painting over a diamond-cut face is the shortcut most shops take, and it never matches.
Do you match Orbit Grey, Ferric Grey, and Jet Black?+
Yes. Each BMW finish is matched to the factory code and the other three wheels, so the repaired wheel disappears into the set.
Will my TPMS warning come on after the repair?+
No. The sensors are preserved and re-seated correctly, and the wheel is rebalanced before it goes back on.
